Text messaging doesn’t use “data” as defined by cell phone networks– if you can make and receive calls, you can send text messages, even if you can’t connect to the internet. To disable data on an iPhone, look in Settings under General –> Network.By Blackbeard September 15th, 2012 at 06:06:57
An iphone is a smart phone, so you are forced to pay data charges for internet and texting, even if you don’t use it. I asked Verizon about that a few days ago, and that is what they told me. How can I turn off all network on my iPhone 4 and only use WiFi overseas? I will be taking my iPhone 4 to both Europe and Asia this summer and I want to be able to use it for music, photos and to connect to any free Wifi but I do not want to be charged anything on my phone bill. I have read that you can turn off the 3G, Data Roaming and Cellular Data in the General Setting but I have heard that this only disables certain functions such as picutre/video messaging and the internet but that text messages and phone calls can still get through. Is this true? And if it is, is it possible to turn off all calling and messaging without activating Airplane mode so that I can still use Wifi?By Maikel September 15th, 2012 at 15:00:51
