Can i still text on my iPhone 4 if I disable cellular Datacategory: Iphone4
If you disable the cellular data, the phone search for a WiFi connection. It will prevent the phone from checking email, etc. if no WiFi connection nearby. Calls and text messaging are not affected by data or lack of it.
Talkatone helps you to make unlimited free calls, send text messages and share locations using data connection on your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. !
On Dec 30 2010, Skype announced an upgrade that allows video calls through the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and through the current iPod Touch and iPad. It is not dependent on WiFi, and uses about 3.2 MB a minute from your data plan. again soon.
How much you are charged for text messaging depends on your wireless carrier, not your phone. Most carriers charge 20 cents per message without a package.

Text messaging doesn’t use “data” as defined by cell phone networks– if you can make and receive calls, you can send text messages, even if you can’t connect to the internet. To disable data on an iPhone, look in Settings under General –> Network.By Blackbeard September 15th, 2012 at 06:06:57
An iphone is a smart phone, so you are forced to pay data charges for internet and texting, even if you don’t use it. I asked Verizon about that a few days ago, and that is what they told me. I was thinking about getting a smart phone, but …http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120305202021AAYYLPeBy brad_irc September 15th, 2012 at 07:57:30
Maybe your phone loses the wifi connection periodically and goes back to 3G? That’s what mine does. I don’t know how to turn off 3G except by going into Airplane Mode, which would turn off the phone part entirely. How can I turn off all network on my iPhone 4 and only use WiFi overseas? I will be taking my iPhone 4 to both Europe and Asia this summer and I want to be able to use it for music, photos and to connect to any free Wifi but I do not want to be charged anything on my phone bill. I have read that you can turn off the 3G, Data Roaming and Cellular Data in the General Setting but I have heard that this only disables certain functions such as picutre/video messaging and the internet but that text messages and phone calls can still get through. Is this true? And if it is, is it possible to turn off all calling and messaging without activating Airplane mode so that I can still use Wifi?By Maikel September 15th, 2012 at 15:00:51
This is fraudulent for Verizon to do imho! They tell you you have free texting but it %100 has to use your data. They say well we say its free texting not free data. I say BULLS#IT! This is fraudgulent! You can’t have one without the other, hence the big LIE! Someone needs to congrigate with every Verzon user and sue their asses on the behalf of every verizon user. There is also fraud in their sales of their phones. I was charged sales tax on the $499, but my phone cost me $99…What? How do you pay sales tax on an item of $37.40 for each phone when the tax should have been %7.5 in my area ($7.47)??? This is also massivly fraudgulent! They could care less about their tiny little customer! They are grossly mis leading & sniping every dollar they think they are owed. I hope they get it handed to them!By T August 29th, 2014 at 16:57:14
